About the Role

We are seeking passionate and skilled Auslan (Australian Sign Language) Interpreters to join our growing team. In this role, you will deliver high-quality Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) services to Deaf and Hard of Hearing customers across Australia, supporting one of the world's largest and most respected organisations.

Working from the comfort of your home office, you will facilitate clear, accurate, and professional communication in a variety of settings, including customer support, technical assistance, and general service interactions. Key Responsibilities

  • VRI Delivery: Deliver accurate and effective Auslan interpreting via video remote technology.
  • Communication Faciliation: Facilitate seamless communication between Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and hearing participants.
  • Professional Standards: Maintain strict confidentiality, impartiality, and ethical conduct at all times, adhering to the ASLITA Code of Ethics and organisational policies.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service while supporting positive communication outcomes.
  • Operational Excellence: Demonstrate punctuality, preparedness, and professionalism during scheduled shifts.
  • Tech Adaptability: Adapt quickly to new technologies, communication platforms, and operating procedures.
  • Administration: Accurately document and maintain required interaction records.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.

About You

You are a highly skilled communicator with a deep understanding of Deaf culture and community expectations. You are adaptable, professional, and confident working independently in a remote environment while maintaining the highest standards of interpreting practice.

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised Auslan interpreting qualification.
  • Minimum NAATI Certified Provisional Interpreter (CPI) accreditation or higher.
  • Fluency in both Auslan and spoken English.
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the Deaf community.
  • Proven ability to work independently from a home office environment.
  • Strong technical aptitude and confidence using video communication platforms.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience interpreting within customer service, contact centres, technical support, or corporate environments.
  • NAATI Certified Interpreter (Auslan) accreditation.
  • Prior experience in Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) environments.
  • Familiarity with Auslan dialectal and regional variations across Australia.

Work From Home & Technical Requirements

To ensure the highest levels of service quality and data security, applicants must possess a dedicated, secure home office space featuring:

Internet Connection: Reliable, hardwired Ethernet connection with internet speed of minimum 10 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload. (Wi-Fi-only connections are not suitable for this role. Your setup must be hardwired.)

  • Environment: A quiet, professional, and private workspace free from background noise and visual distractions, suitable for video-based customer interactions.
  • Compliance: Ability to meet all organisational IT, privacy, and security requirements.
